Source: microsoftftwDownload of the Week: PeerBlock
If you do a lot of downloading, especially from torrent sites, you need this program. This helps to protect you and block your IP address from other computers that try to access it during downloading or visiting certain sites. This program will not 100% protect you from everything and will not make it impossible to get caught and in trouble for downloading, but it helps. Its also interesting to see what tries to access your computer while downloading torrents. Its pretty creepy.
Explanation from the PeerBlock website: PeerBlock blocks “known bad” computers from accessing yours, and vice versa. Depending on the lists you have it set up to use, you can block governments, corporations, machines flagged for anti-p2p activites, even entire countries! Whether you’re sharing files with Bittorrent or just surfing the web, PeerBlock can help protect you from the bad guys.
PeerBlock doesn’t have to be running all the time, but you should turn it on before illegally downloading something. Also note, that if PeerBlock is on, some websites will not load and if they don’t, just turn off PeerBlock or disable it. For example, if its on, you can’t access apple.com. You can also disable it and enable it from the tray icon by right clicking on it.

WE ARE NOT ENCOURAGING ANYONE TO ILLEGALLY DOWNLOAD CONTENT. It is not safe and it’s wrong. Just showing off a form of protection for those of you who do.
