AJAX Photo Galleries

I'm doing some research in order to get some fresh new ideas together for a new site for my main gig, OCS Corp. After sifting through several options I found two really sharp AJAX photo galleries that I like: Both have their pros and cons - I really like DonkeyMagic's "slidy" interface, but I also love the "full screen" effect achieved with Minishowcase. Perhaps some careful melding of the two is in order... hm.... ;) Technorati Tags: , , ,

Browser Stats

W3 Schools lists some very useful browser statistics such as browser usage, operating system and screen resolution.

You can never go by stats alone, but its useful for getting an overall idea of web trends in general.

A FreshView on Getting Real…

While reading Chapter 2 - "What's your Problem?" of 37signals' e-book Getting Real I stumbled across a quote by David Greiner, founder of the online software development firm Freshview.

I gotta say, the folks over at FreshView sure do seem to have it together. Not only is their site simple and useful, (I especially enjoyed the "Ultimate 3 Screen Setup for a Designer" article - controlling a PC and a Mac with the same keyboard? AWESOME!) but they've got what appears to be some really killer web apps:

  • Mail Build - "...an email newsletter tool built just for web designers."
  • Campaign Monitor - "...[web-based] software to send each campaign, track the results and manage their client?s subscribers."
Hm... definitely something I could use in the future...

Print Tools by Designers Toolbox

Well, this one certainly was a no-brainer - a very healthy collection of envelope and postcard sizes, various folding styles, proofing marks, and even some CD Cover and Label templates makes the Print Tools Area of Designer's Toolbox a GRRRREAT set of resources for any designer from novice to expert. And yeah, they are trying to sell you some kinda sappy service for creating a "portfolio" online... but hey whatever, everyone's gotta eat, right? :) Technorati Tags: , ,

This Post is Under Construction

In an effort to dissuade a client from posting a gaudy animated ?under construction? sign on one of their pages, I ran accross a few very interesting articles. One discussed the factors that make up a ?wicked problem? and the other explores time as a core ingredient to wicked problems. Some great quotes from the ?wicked problem? article:
?Almost by definition, the crazier the idea, the harder it is to get people to recognize its value.?
?Don?t worry about other people stealing your ideas. If your ideas are any good, you?ll have to ram them down people?s throats.?
Its both frustrating and comforting being able to identify with these two statements. Ah well... its a shame I don't have more time to complete this post... Oh! I know how to fix that! :D ('!!Under Construction!!') Technorati Tags: , ,

Rico Accordion

This is more for me so I don't lose it rather than for everyone else, but Rico is an open source scripting library similar to Scriptaculous which allows for some pretty cool "ajaxy stuff". Accordion Example is the main one that has drawn me to this library. There's also a different implementation of the accordion behavior using Scriptaculous, but its kinda buggy. I'd like to see some updates on this one. Technorati Tags: ,

HTTPS 403.4 Javascript Redirector for IIS 5.0, 6.0

My friend Eric Thompson who works with me at OCS Corp created an awesome lil' piece of javascript for use as a custom 403.4 error when you want to FORCE someone to use HTTPS protocol in IIS.
