ALA Web Design Survey
Posted by KMFNJ | Filed under Design, Journal
Yay! A List Apart is calling all web professionals to get together and talk about their experience in the industry. The survey is short and relatively painless - only took me about 5-10 minutes to complete. Highly recommended if you're a web or graphic design professional.Be My Friend…

Definition lists: the DL, DT, and DD elements
Posted by KMFNJ | Filed under Design
DL, DT, and DD are useful set of tags, since they can really be used to hack out some very cool CSS layouts. I was working with the MooTools Accordion that I mentioned previously and someone gave an example with these tags in it. I didn't know what they were at first, so I check them out at W3C - evidently these are just another set of obscure tags that only really cool people know about ...and now I'm glad to say I'm on of them.Open Source Web Design

Arg! I've gone absolutely "design crazy" today... Here's yet another design-related website that I thought was at least semi-interesting:Open Source Web Design is a site to download free web design templates and share yours with others. We help make the internet a prettier placeSo uh, anyway, its not all good, but its not all bad either.

K10K Pixel Patterns
Posted by KMFNJ | Filed under Design
What can I say - this is an absolutely sweet website for people to submit pixel patterns and it simply rocks. Technorati Tags: design, pixel patternsExcellent Grid Examples
Posted by KMFNJ | Filed under Design
- Windell - I absolutely love the elements that make up Windell's website. The layout is very clean and split into a sensible grid system, design is very clean and minimal, but not at all boring, and the navigation is very easy to use.
- Maya Marioka's Portfolio - really nice grid technique here, a bit difficult to navigate, though (requires scrolling)
- YouWorkForThem - nice consistancy in this grid system - easy to anticipate where things will appear which I imagine would help users familiarize themselves with the site more quickly
- Emigre - not your typical grid layout - almost every "pane" is used... not exactly my favorite as its very busy, but i guess it works
TurboMilk does a body good.

I came across TurboMilk, an iconography and interface design firm whose site is absolutely gorgeous, while browsing The Grid Section of Design Meltdown, which is a butt-kicking website for web design study/trends/etc. TurboMilk posted a cool article outlining general attributes of web 2.0 design which, I feel provides a decent summary and some nice examples. Excerpt:
And what is ?web 2.0-styled? design? Letters pictured with reflections? Rounded corners? Let?s drop these cliche?s for being infinitesimal and consider some examples. I took some liberty to compile a short list of the most vibrant, as I see them, representatives of the new wave in web design.Technorati Tags: design, web 2.0, usability, trends
