Making Room for Kyle

[googlevideo]1204541923783323442[/googlevideo] What else can I say - there's hardly anything funnier than watching my wife push my sister-in-law down the stairs in a box! (This was Ashley's dumb idea. :D)Bathsheba Sculpture
Posted by KMFNJ | Filed under Journal
I just visited the site of Bathsheba Grossman, self described as "an artist exploring how math, science and sculpture meet."
I really must say the results of his work are nothing short of extraordinary. The site features a fascinating gallery, and you can even purchase the sculptures online!

Open Source CMS and Exponent
Posted by KMFNJ | Filed under Journal, Toolbox
Open Source CMS is a very cool website that lets you demo Content Management Systems that utilize PHP and MySQL. The demonstration websites are reset every 2 hours (or so...) - what a neat idea! WordPress is, of course, listed; but one of the newer CMS's that I discovered from visiting Open Source CMS was Exponent CMS which looks pretty cool, but I'll have to find some time to try it out (yeah, right... as if I have time...) I came across TurboMilk, an iconography and interface design firm whose site is absolutely gorgeous, while browsing The Grid Section of Design Meltdown, which is a butt-kicking website for web design study/trends/etc. TurboMilk posted a cool article outlining general attributes of web 2.0 design which, I feel provides a decent summary and some nice examples. Excerpt:
And what is ?web 2.0-styled? design? Letters pictured with reflections? Rounded corners? Let?s drop these cliche?s for being infinitesimal and consider some examples. I took some liberty to compile a short list of the most vibrant, as I see them, representatives of the new wave in web design.Technorati Tags: design, web 2.0, usability, trends

W3 Schools lists some very useful browser statistics such as browser usage, operating system and screen resolution. You can never go by stats alone, but its useful for getting an overall idea of web trends in general.

A FreshView on Getting Real…
Posted by KMFNJ | Filed under Journal, Toolbox
While reading Chapter 2 - "What's your Problem?" of 37signals' e-book Getting Real I stumbled across a quote by David Greiner, founder of the online software development firm Freshview.I gotta say, the folks over at FreshView sure do seem to have it together. Not only is their site simple and useful, (I especially enjoyed the "Ultimate 3 Screen Setup for a Designer" article - controlling a PC and a Mac with the same keyboard? AWESOME!) but they've got what appears to be some really killer web apps:
- Mail Build - "...an email newsletter tool built just for web designers."
- Campaign Monitor - "...[web-based] software to send each campaign, track the results and manage their client?s subscribers."

Askaninja.com offers expert advice for kids planning on staying up to wait forThis Post is Under Construction
Posted by KMFNJ | Filed under Journal
In an effort to dissuade a client from posting a gaudy animated ?under construction? sign on one of their pages, I ran accross a few very interesting articles. One discussed the factors that make up a ?wicked problem? and the other explores time as a core ingredient to wicked problems. Some great quotes from the ?wicked problem? article:?Almost by definition, the crazier the idea, the harder it is to get people to recognize its value.?
?Don?t worry about other people stealing your ideas. If your ideas are any good, you?ll have to ram them down people?s throats.?Its both frustrating and comforting being able to identify with these two statements. Ah well... its a shame I don't have more time to complete this post... Oh! I know how to fix that!

The Man In Blue

Gorgeous website featuring the work of Cameron Adams, a self described Web Technologist from Melbourne, Australia. I love this website - it is a beautiful, elegant design and has lots of neato stuff.I happened across it while searching for a javascript page loading analysis utility. But I love it when such a search becomes a beautiful distraction.
Thanks Cameron!
